There is lots to do at Black River Wilderness Park for young and old. You could be lying back on your hammock having a siesta or reading a good book. This is the place. The pool is available from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Black River affords many pleasures such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, rafting or sitting in the rapids with the water flowing over you like a jacuzzi. We do not rent canoes, kyaks or rafts.

There are horseshoes to play, a volleyball and a badminton court plus a fenced play area. The playground has swings for both toddlers and older children, two sizes of slides and monkey bars. There are walking trails through the woods measuring 1.6 km.,1.8 km. and 3.2 km. There is also a pavilion where you can get together during inclement weather and play board games. Story and craft times are in the months of July and August. Activities take place Saturday mornings. All events are posted at the washrooms.

The Black River runs around the islands of the Black River Wilderness Family Campground. The setting is private, secluded and left for the most part in its natural state.

In the summer months you can enjoy an afternoon’s paddle on this peaceful flat water river, as it winds its way through hardwood and coniferous forest. There are plenty of spots to explore while you admire the tree-lined banks and wildflowers, listen to bird songs, and experience the occasional excitement of a small swift.

For the young and the young-at-heart, this area is a natural water park. Bring your water shoes and your inner tube. Let the gentle current carry you through the islands, bounce you through a series of small rapids, and race to the top to start again!

In the spring, the water levels rise and the river provides an excellent opportunity for more experienced paddlers to practice their whitewater skills as the river rushes around the islands.

Whether in a canoe, a kayak, or floating down a series of small rapids in a rubber tube, this river is fun for the whole family!
